History of the Names used for our Trails
History of Lake Tippecanoe Development
March 9, 1971 lands in the Bee Ridge Farms Subdivision were bought by National Lakes Development Co. from Mrs. Hallie Robinson Moore. The land had been in the estate of Hampton Alfred Moore who had acquired it in June of 1940. The Moore family had plans to develop this land. In 1962 Mr. Sanford Summers was hired to start excavating the area which was to become Lake Tippecanoe. (Depth or excavation for lake 20 -25 feet).
The work progressed with some difficulty since some of the neighbors complained of the dust and dirt caused by the trucks loaded with fill moving in and out of the area.
However when acquired by National Lakes Development. Lake Tippecanoe became a name on the map and our community was born! Lake Tippecanoe was given its name by Mr Lenny Tanner who was one of the early promoters and investors before the work on the Condominium was started.
Harry Macksey, National Lakes Development Inc. was the driving force of the project. John J. Jetton was the architect and the Mosby Engineering Co. handled the installation plan of roads, sewer, drainage and water systems.
The original villa design was based on the 1200 sq. Ft area which we all are familiar with. However credit for some modification to the present fluid and competent floor plan goes to Mr. Tom Macksey, General Superintendent of all construction. Tom supervised licensed builders and subcontractors on the project.
Lake Tippecanoe is 37.5 feet (mean) above sea level.
The first meeting of Lake Tippecanoe Owners Association. was held at 2071 Main Street, Sarasota, Florida on September 23 1971 10:00 AM. At this meeting the certification of corporation noted filed on September 20, 1971 was acknowledged. Also By Laws as in the Declaration of Condominium were adopted.
The first meeting of the Board of Directors was held immediately after the above meeting at 11:00 AM September 23, 1971. The directors were Ollie Gardenshire, Harry C. Olsen and Harry Macksey. This meeting accomplished the following:
1. Minutes of first meeting of subscribers approved.
2. By Laws adopted by subscribers approved.
January 10 1978 the developer relinquished control, until then the Board of Directors was actually under control of the Developer, who handled all monies, expenditures and legal matters. However during this trying period much was accomplished by persuasion and action of the Board of Directors.
